ABOUT FIG TREE
Fig Tree is a neighborhood classic, family-owned and serving our community since 1978. Today, it has been reimagined with a feel and flavor driven by our Latin roots and our love for the Pacific coastline. Inspired by our lives in South America, where the farms often nuzzle up against the sea, and by our home, Venice, we've peeled back the rind and recreated Fig Tree.
Our aim is to provide you with an elegant California Latin experience; unique delicious food, warmly attentive service, the ocean at the horizon - a feeling of a romantic vacation. Energized by an abundance of seasonal market ingredients, our food and cocktail menus change often. We invite you to sit by the sand, enjoy the little world we’ve created here, and maybe meet a new friend to journey on this beautiful life with.
WHO WE ARE
MATIAS | son - ambiance conductor - operations & design
In his early 20s, Matias spent a year traveling over the globe, eventually boarding a sailboat for a 7000 nautical mile journey that took him halfway across the Indian Ocean and back. A decade later, he plies his trade in real estate and hospitality, drawing design inspiration from the many places he's passed through. This, along with his lifelong study of music composition has directed the design, atmosphere, and sounds at Fig Tree.
DASHIELL | friend - sage of the senses - food, wine, & culture
A bon vivant in spirit and a maker at heart, Dashiell’s obsession with craft and tradition has lead him around the world with long stints in East Asia, South America and Europe. His focus on food and culture drove him back to cook in top kitchens across the US. After a chapter in architecture and fragrance, he now spends his time building the culture of the cafe through its food, drink, and experience.
SOPHIA | daughter - flower maven - design & creative
Over the last 15 years, Sophia has lived in New York, LA, and Tuscany, working in florals and design. Upon her return to LA 5 years ago, she founded what has become a world-renowned floral design company ISA ISA. In her youth, when Jose and Victoria (our mama) ran the original Fig Tree, she worked as a server every summer, dreaming of one day infusing the space with a new spirit. Now, Sophia brings her lifelong design passion and creative direction to Fig Tree. Her wild arrangements and colorful strokes adorn our space, bringing it to life.
JOSE | father - perpetual adventurer - inspiration
By way of Argentina, Thailand, and finally Italy, Jose ultimately landed in California in the 1970s. He became owner at Fig Tree in 2006.
His perennial spirit is a constant source of inspiration at Fig Tree. His cooking is sublime and his stories, único, as we say. Once, on a sultry July afternoon, he disappeared into the Costa Rican jungle only to reappear 3 days later with a whole pig on his back...
